The Monkey Bunch kicks off the 2nd Annual Family Series at the Drake this Sunday. Skip the Superbowl and shake it with your kids instead!
AUGUST IS HERE and there is still so much to do, so many festivals, camps and neighbourhood events not to mention the library, the pool and on the islands. With only five weekends left before September, we’re checking our lists and picking favourites. There are 11 of us at The Little Paper now with 16 smalls in tow and everybody has something they just can’t miss before September rolls in.
We hope you’ll find great activities for your family in Special Events on page 2, Happening in The Park on page 41, Festivals on page 7 or the My Neighbourhood sections but, if you get stuck for ideas, here are our top picks: The Star Party at the Ontario Science Centre on the 8th. It runs late, but for older children and night owls, it’s a rare opportunity to explore the night sky and learn about the stories of the stars. Toronto’s great Farmer’s Markets, especially Liberty Village on Sundays, Riverdale Farm on Tuesdays, Sorauren Park on Mondays and Dufferin Grove on Thursdays. Pedestrian Sundays, and in particular The Black Out in Kensington Market on the 17th. Family Sunday nights at The Dream in High Park – arrive early to get a kid-friendly introduction to the play, explore the set and get a headstart on your picnic. The Drop in Garden Adventure Program at Franklin’s Children’s Garden running all month long on Centre Island. The Family Fun Festival at Earl Bales Park featuring Dufflebag Theatre on the 10th and Native Drumming on the 31st. The Kids Trunk Show at The Workroom on the 17th and Puppets in the Park at the Toronto Botanical Garden on the 21st.
I likely won’t get my girls’ fall schedules sorted until sometime in November but I imagine you’re a good deal more organized and will appreciate the early look at all the fall programs and classes listed in this issue. Next year, I’ll plan farther ahead but for now I just need to get outside and play! – Vicki
