The Monkey Bunch kicks off the 2nd Annual Family Series at the Drake this Sunday. Skip the Superbowl and shake it with your kids instead!
First off, I’d like to thank all the families that came out to support The High Park Nature Centre at Totstock last month. Over 1000 talls and smalls showed up to listen to local musicians, hear stories and make nature-themed crafts. Thank you so much to our sponsors, over 30 volunteers and especially to our partners Chris Reed, Don Kerr and Gillian Anderson, who went all out to create a joyful family celebration. Thanks also to the staff and volunteers from The Nature Centre, Rebecca from Bunch Family, the Westend Co-op and the RMRA for their enthusiasm and support!
Nest up, it came in a bit late to make the listings but The Workroom, Karyn Valino’s lovely Parkdale sewing studio, is hosting a Children’s Trunk Show on August 23 from 12 to 5pm. Information about Karyn’s show, and other late-breaking family events, can be found in our next newsletter so, if you haven’t signed up already, please do! We’ll be making an especially big effort this month to keep you informed about ways to enjoy the summer with or without fully operational city services.
Speaking of the strike, while The City is back to business, there’s still a lot of uncertainty about programming, permits and pool times. We’ve marked events and activities that may be affected with an asterisk so please take a moment to call ahead and confirm that these events are still happening before heading out with your family. Few things are more frustrating than hiking across town with a stroller, a sling, and ninety-eight pounds of snacks, diapers, water bottles and excited little bodies only to discover that there’s nothing going on. Christina has, as usual, outdone herself with searching out great alternatives to the traditional roster of city services - please check out her ideas in the Summer in the City Guide in print and in our newest newsletter.
The parents at The Little Paper hope that the pools stay open, the sun shines and that you have a very safe and happy month! (And now, if you’ll excuse us, I think Pip, Lily and I are about due for a few days of goofing off!) – Vicki
