The Monkey Bunch kicks off the 2nd Annual Family Series at the Drake this Sunday. Skip the Superbowl and shake it with your kids instead!

Welcome to the weekend!

February 2010

I never liked Valentine's Day much as a grown up but, now that there are littles in the mix, I actually like it a great deal. Baking sugar cookies, scattering pink and red jellybeans on the breakfast table, making and receiving valentines with my girls and, more recently, helping my elder daughter navigate grade school be-mine-etiquette all combine to make it a pretty lovely little mid-winter holiday. A quick tip – while it might seem really sweet to scatter little cinnamon hearts on your little sweetheart’s bed, it’s a really bad idea... think cinnamon rash. Not that I know anything about this personally... ahem.

Meanwhile, lots and lots going on this month... we’ve updated the Winter Fun Guide on page 8 and are crossing our fingers for a little snow, the Family Day Guide on page 6 is extensive and there’s a special Valentines Day section on page 7. There is a huge March Break Camp guide in the paper this month as well as a solid line-up on new and ongoing programs and classes and neighbourhood events. Nearer to the end of the month, we’ll be hoping to see you at Totsapalooza – the Space Age Rodeo Edition at the Revival on the 21st. There will be crafts and stories from Small Print and great music from Don Kerr & the Jet Pack Orchestra, Trinity Bellwoods and I Eat Kids (they don’t really, they actually are kids). 100% of the proceeds go to The Children’s Storefront so, aside from great fun, it’s for a great
cause as well.
Online, we’ll be rolling out big changes throughout the month so check in often. There’s a TSO Paddywak Ticket Giveaway on Thursday for those of you who are on our newsletter list plus the transformation of One Opinionated Little Mother, the editorial, into (cue drumbeat) a regular blog. We’ll be adding profiles of mom-run businesses, completely changing the look and feel and hoping for a lot more input from you.
What hasn’t changed? Great listings and special event resources – this month, you’ll find our complete Family Day and March Break Camp listings online as well as the regular Weekend Tipsheet and Shameless Recommendations. Have a lovely month – Vicki
