Local Shopping

December 2009

Once again, this December, The Little Paper has offered local business owners the opportunity to tell you about their products and services in our regular Celebrate the Street feature. While this is in no way a comprehensive list, it is an excellent round up of neighbourhood businesses that deserve your support this season. And it’s a great place to get started exploring and supporting the little cities within our vast metropolis.

May 2009

I am slowly accepting the fact that I am one opinionated little mother. This will come as no surprise to my friends and family. Even less of one to the women I work with. But for me, it’s been a slow enlightening. And one I’m just learning to embrace. As much as parenthood opens us up to spontaneity and to the fundamental unpredictability of the universe, it also tends to clarify and firm up our beliefs. So in honour of this Mothers’ Day, here’s my shortlist...

December 2008

At a time of year we associate with wonder and surprise, it seems appropriate that The Little Paper is celebrating its fifth anniversary. I find it hard to believe that this little experiment in independent publishing can have survived and grown and become a part of the daily lives of so many Toronto parents. Our quality and tenacity and growth is entirely in our people. Over the last 60 issues, The Little Paper has evolved from lone woman with an ambitious idea to a diverse and dedicated team of mothers who must rank among the smartest, most efficient and kindest women in the city (oh, and Reed too!). It just makes sense that such an amazing group of moms put together a paper that resonates for parents.

November 2008

I like November. I like how it sits in between the onset of autumn and the mad rush of the holidays. I like umbrellas and puddles and bare-limbed black branches.

December 2007

There simply isn’t any month more magical than December for children. Whatever their family’s traditions, the world is transformed – the dark comes early and fires are lit, hot chocolate is poured and the sky is filled with stars long before they are in bed. An evening drive reveals houses aglow, red-bowed reindeer in city gardens and downtown streets transformed with light and colour. Families gather, bedtimes slip past, poems and stories are read, cookies are baked and favourite meals are shared  grandparents, aunts and uncles and, of course, cousins. Oh the joy of cousins!

November 2007

One of the odd things about putting together a monthly newspaper is that I often find myself thinking it’s about 30 days later than it is.
