The Monkey Bunch kicks off the 2nd Annual Family Series at the Drake this Sunday. Skip the Superbowl and shake it with your kids instead!
This March has 17 school-free days out of 31 so, depending on your travel plans, the weather, your religious and cultural affiliations, the inlaws and your level of organizational aplomb, the next four weeks ought to be somewhere between a relaxing opportunity to connect with your family and a rollercoaster ride of marathon-like duration and intensity. I’ll likely find myself on the white knuckle thrill ride side, starting offstrong with seven a.m. Parks and Rec registrations, making an overconfidentascent into March Break, getting a little shaky mid-monthwhile transforming camp crafts into marginally appropriate St Patrick’s Day decorations, frantically recycling it all into a kind of avant garde Easter egg decoupage around midnight on Good Friday and finally coming to a shuddering halt on the couch with a bag of purloined jelly beans and a large martini on the 31st.
Of course it doesn’t have to be this way, I could just read The Little Paper, maybe make some plans... there is children’s theatre at venues all over the city, kid’s matinées at The Fox and The Revue and theToronto Public Libraries offer plays, puppet shows, crafts and stories throughout March Break. Maple Syrup at Mountsberg and the Kortright are great favourites; there’s a Family Jam Brunch at The Gladstone, wonderful programming at the AGO and Neilson Park, the St Patrick’s parade downtown and the Easter Parade in theBeach, a moonlit cross country ski tour at Hilton Falls and so very much more.
Christina, Karen, Holly and Veronique have researched March Breakand Easter programming, found plenty of camps that had space available as of press, listed the City’s summer camps (you’ll find your registration date in the My Neighbourhood sections) and sourced wonderful local events and library programs. They have also checked holiday hours, confirmed outdoor rink closings and added a slew ofnew programs and classes for spring.
Phew. I hope you have a great month, and I wish you luck! – Vicki
