The Monkey Bunch kicks off the 2nd Annual Family Series at the Drake this Sunday. Skip the Superbowl and shake it with your kids instead!
October is basically the opposite of February. It’s got lots of great celebrations – Thanksgiving, the Festival of Lights and Hallowe’en among them – great weather and beautiful changes to the season. There’s time to enjoy Fall Fetes, the last of the apple picking, Harvest festivals and trips to take in the colours of the changing leaves. There are pumpkins to carve, acorns and chestnuts to collect and leaves to press.
There seems to be a lot going on for families this month so I’m going to pick a few favourites - we won’t be missing Bunch Family’s Where The Wild Things Are Rumpus, The Royal Winter Fair, Small Print’s Winnie The Pooh Party, Cirque du Soleil’s OVO and York-Durham Heritage Railway’s Fall Colours Ride and the Sorauren Park Pumpkin Parade. I signed on for a fair amount of costume making and Thanksgiving baking (apple butter pumpkin pie with a ginger snap crust :-), so I’m not sure we’ll have time but, if we do...Solar Stage has some good productions this month, Hoopla looks like a must-go and I’ve flagged the Children’s Trunk Show for early November. Oh, and the Hallowe’en Hoot & Howl and the High Park Pumpkin Float and... hmm.
Well, one thing I know for sure is that I’ll be sitting on our porch on the 31st handing out mini-chocolate bars, visiting with friends and neighbours, taking turns walking the girls around the neighbourhood and stealing the caramels out of their candy bags.
I hope you have a great month.
Boo! – Vicki
