MY CHILD, MY CITY – Justine and daughter Julia, 2 years old
Justine pick’s up the Little Paper during their library visits, usually the Leaside or Mt. Pleasant branch.
Justine’s older daughter, Alexandra, who’s 5, is excited about returning to school for Senior Kindergarten with her beloved teacher, Mrs. Goddard. She learned to ride a 2-wheeler this summer and is thrilled at the idea of being able to ride to school for the first time! Julia wishes she could join her.
Justine is a believer in “Simplicity Parenting” which means the kids have a lot of creative playdates with their super circle of friends. Events have included: a Pollock Party (lots of messy painting in the backyard, and great kids’ art at the end of it all), or a make-your-own-crepes lunch. They also love the city parks and can be found in one just about every day, favourites include: Davisville, Trace Manes or Pottery Park. Other activities include visits to the Ontario Science Centre, thanks to a family membership and storytime at Mable’s Fables or the Flying Dragon bookstore.
We had to ask. With a new school year, comes a new challenge - snacks and lunches. What kind of snacks/lunches are foolproof with your kids?
“I’ve found it’s often the presentation style that seals the deal: mini-muffins instead of regular sized ones, or carrots cut into thin curly wisps (with a peeler) instead of sticks. Plain popcorn seems to be a perennial favourite. My girls also love having after-school snack ‘picnics’ with their friends -- everything tastes better on a playground!”
