Mouse City Cloverdale III @ Relish Festival
Saturday, September 14 @ 11:00 am - Sunday, September 15 @ 7:00 pmFree
Mouse City is in search of aspiring urban planners, architects, landscape architects, urban designers, engineers, artists, and all manner of city-builders to help imagine what the future of Cloverdale Mall might be! During Mouse City Cloverdale, aspiring builders aged 4 to 12 will construct a model neighbourhood on the site of Cloverdale Mall using recyclable materials to create the buildings and public spaces they wish to see in their city. Participants will also have the opportunity to act as reporters for the Mouse City Times writing and drawing stories about what they think life in the new community might be like.
At this session, young city-builders will think about and design the places to live, work, and play in this emerging community. How will this community be sustainable? What will public spaces look like? How will residents access all the things they need to thrive? These are questions participants will work together to answer!
Ideas and opinions generated from the event will be prepared in a report by Small Print Toronto and delivered to QuadReal to assist them in the redevelopment process.
This event occurs in conjunction with Relish Festival in the north parking lot of Cloverdale Mall. Relish Festival is a food truck festival designed to allow for optimum exploration of culinary delights.
Young city-builders must be accompanied at all times by a parent / guardian.
This event is FREE!
WHAT IS MOUSE CITY
Mouse City is a model-building project run by Small Print Toronto, a registered non-profit that has run programs which empower children to tell their own stories since 2008. Mice creating homes out of materials discarded by humans is a familiar narrative in children’s literature and the trope offers a way to engage children in conversations about city-building. Focusing on storybook mice helps kids grasp the complex question of how planning decisions impact residents. By making the process of urban planning accessible, Mouse City provides children (and their families) with the agency to express their own ideas and aspirations for their real-life community.
